Learn a little bit about the benefits of running, and get some training tips with an Olympic Marathoner.
Blake will discuss the benefits of running and how to get started safely. She will talk about some key muscle groups to address in order to prevent common running injuries, and demonstrate related exercises. She will also take some time to answer training and other running related questions.
Blake Russell started running in 9th grade and has been running ever since. She was a standout runner in high-school in Winston-Salem, NC, competed all four years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in both Cross Country and Track & Field. She was an All-American and 2x ACC Champion in the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters.
Her running career excelled while attending Physical Therapy School at Elon University full-time. Blake is a many time National Champion on the USA Road Racing circuit at varying distances, and has represented the United States at both Track and Cross Country World Championships, as well as the marathon in the Beijing Olympic Games where she was the only American finisher and placed 27th.
She currently lives in Pacific Grove, CA with her husband and two children. She recently placed 3rd at the USA 20k National Championship and will run the TCS New York City Marathon Nov 2.
